Dr. Alexandra - Naturopath

Dr. Alexandra Daghelian, ND

Naturopathic Doctor

My interest in health began as a competitive dancer where I saw firsthand how nutrition and recovery impacted my performance. Although I stepped away from dance after high school, I continued learning more about the human body while completing a Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology and a diploma in Fitness and Health Promotion at the University of Guelph-Humber. For a time, I planned to enter the corporate world, but a conversation with my naturopath made me realize that naturopathic medicine had been in front of me all along. I closely aligned with the philosophy of treating the whole person, and using nutrition, supplements and lifestyle to both treat and prevent disease.

Outside of work, I like to recharge with yoga, walks in nature, watching movies, working out, and spending time with my family. I’ve always loved dance and would really like to get back into it. I also recently started running, which has been tough because I’m pretty competitive and don’t enjoy feeling like I’m not good at something right away. It’s been a challenge, but also a good lesson in patience and pushing myself.

Which cases do you enjoy treating and why?

Although I support a wide range of concerns in my practice, I’m especially passionate about helping patients improve stress, sleep, skin health, pain relief, and digestion.

I’ve been on my own journey to improve my acne and post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation, which led me to explore the connection between skin health, nutrition and hormones. Now I help people with a variety of skin conditions including acne, eczema, psoriasis, and signs of aging. I personally enjoy reviewing my patients’ skincare routines and making product recommendations alongside other treatments to support skin health from the inside out. For patients who want to focus on aging, I also incorporate facial acupuncture to stimulate collagen production, improve muscle tone, and relax overactive muscles to enhance overall skin appearance.

After shadowing a somnologist (a doctor who specializes in sleep), I noticed how he often recommended supplements alongside lifestyle changes to help his patients. I learned early on that improving sleep usually requires a combination of the right supplements, healthy sleep habits, stress support, and strategies to calm racing thoughts. With research showing that poor sleep can impact everything from weight and hormones to cholesterol, blood sugar, and blood pressure, I see it as a non-negotiable part of improving overall health.

What should I expect in your session?

In the initial appointment, I focus on understanding your health goals and learning as much as I can about your medical history, lifestyle, and other symptoms you may be experiencing. Together we create a plan that encompasses supplement, diet, exercise and lifestyle recommendations.

I sometimes recommend bloodwork in the first appointment so we have a clear baseline and can measure progress as we implement changes. When we do a full bloodwork review, we go through each marker tested, where I explain how it connects to your symptoms, and what’s considered optimal compared to just “normal.” Your results will be taken into consideration when adapting your plan to help you see a positive improvement in your bloodwork when we reassess.

Within the first couple of weeks, I usually schedule a short 15-minute follow-up to check in, go over any questions, and see how you’re responding to supplements. After that, follow-up frequency depends on your goals, how long we expect changes to take, and when we plan to reassess bloodwork.

What are you proud of in your practice?

One thing I’m proud of is that I’m intentional about what I recommend. It’s easy to go overboard with supplements and end up with a long list of products that aren’t practical to maintain. I often have patients bring in a bag of supplements they’ve collected over the years and feel overwhelmed by. I focus on choosing products that are foundational, targeted, and easy to stay consistent with. I also make sure each patient leaves with a supplement schedule they can easily follow, ensuring that they have all the tools to stay consistent and see results.

Why should patients choose you as their provider?

I want my patients to feel comfortable asking questions and fully understand the reasoning behind their treatment plan. Unfortunately people often feel rushed or dismissed when visiting their doctor, so I strive to create a different experience. I genuinely enjoy answering health-related questions, explaining how supplements work, and helping you understand how different body systems are connected. My goal is for you to feel confident in each recommendation and to understand the “why” behind it. If something isn’t working, we can adjust the plan so it feels more sustainable for you.
