Psychotherapy in North York & Online
Life can feel overwhelming at times. Anxiety, stress, burnout, relationship challenges, grief, difficult life experiences, changes in your health, or simply feeling stuck can affect how you feel, think, work, sleep, and connect with the people around you.
Psychotherapy offers a private and supportive space to talk openly about what you are experiencing, better understand yourself, recognize patterns that may be holding you back, and develop healthier ways of coping with life’s challenges.
At Motion Care Clinic, our Registered Psychotherapist works with adults through an individualized and collaborative approach to therapy. Sessions are available both in person at our both of our North York clinics and virtually.
What Is Psychotherapy?
Psychotherapy is a form of talk therapy designed to support mental health and overall well-being.
It can help you better understand your thoughts, emotions, behaviours, relationships, and experiences. Through therapy, you may begin to recognize patterns that are no longer serving you, develop strategies for managing difficult emotions and stressful situations, and build greater self-awareness and confidence in navigating life’s challenges.
You do not need to have a diagnosed mental health condition or be experiencing a crisis to benefit from psychotherapy.
Some people begin therapy because they are experiencing anxiety, depression, trauma, or significant stress. Others may simply feel that something is not quite right, find themselves repeating the same patterns, or want a better understanding of themselves and their relationships.
What Can Psychotherapy Help With?
Our psychotherapy services are currently focused on supporting adults experiencing a range of emotional, relational, and life challenges, including:
- Anxiety
- Stress and burnout
- Depression and low mood
- Perfectionism and self-criticism
- Self-worth and confidence
- Relationship and attachment concerns
- Difficulty setting boundaries
- People-pleasing
- Grief and loss
- Cultural identity and family expectations
- Emotional regulation
- Coping with difficult emotions
- Trauma and difficult life experiences
- Chronic pain, injury or illness
- Major life or health changes
You do not need to know exactly what you want to work on before beginning therapy. Part of the process is developing a better understanding of what you are experiencing and determining together where you would like to begin.
Support for High-Functioning Adults
Sometimes struggling does not look like struggling from the outside.
You may be successful in your career, dependable to the people around you, and appear to have everything under control while privately feeling overwhelmed, exhausted, anxious, disconnected, or unsure of what you actually want.
Our psychotherapist has a particular interest in supporting high-functioning adults, including East Asian women, who may have become accustomed to putting other people’s needs before their own.
This can include:
- Feeling responsible for everyone around you
- Having difficulty saying no without feeling guilty
- Struggling to establish or maintain boundaries
- Frequently putting other people’s needs before your own
- Feeling pressure from family or cultural expectations
- Tying your self-worth to achievement or productivity
- Being highly self-critical or perfectionistic
- Appearing to cope well while quietly struggling internally
Therapy can provide space to better understand where these patterns come from, how they affect your well-being and relationships, and how you can begin developing a healthier and more compassionate relationship with yourself.
Psychotherapy for Chronic Pain, Injury and Changes in Your Health
Physical and emotional well-being are closely connected.
Living with chronic pain, recovering from an injury, being diagnosed with an illness, or experiencing a significant change in your physical health can affect much more than your body.
It may also affect your:
- Mood
- Sleep
- Relationships
- Independence
- Confidence
- Body image
- Identity
- Ability to participate in activities you enjoy
- Overall quality of life
Psychotherapy can provide a space to process these changes, explore the emotions surrounding them, develop healthier coping strategies, and reconnect with your sense of self beyond the physical challenges you may be experiencing.
As a multidisciplinary healthcare clinic, Motion Care provides access to a range of healthcare services alongside psychotherapy. Depending on your needs, this may include support such as Chiropractic & physiotherapy for physical rehabilitation or naturopathic medicine as part of your broader health care. When appropriate, and with your consent, psychotherapy can form one part of a broader approach to supporting your overall health and well-being.

Our Approach to Psychotherapy
Therapy is not about having someone tell you who you are or what you should do.
Our approach is collaborative, compassionate, and individualized.
Your psychotherapist aims to provide a space where you can feel heard and comfortable discussing difficult emotions, experiences, relationships, and patterns without judgment.
Sessions may involve slowing down and exploring what you are feeling, identifying patterns in your thoughts or relationships, understanding your needs, developing new coping strategies, and building greater self-awareness.
An important part of the therapeutic process is also learning to approach yourself with greater kindness and compassion rather than constant criticism or judgment.
There is no one-size-fits-all approach to psychotherapy. Your sessions and treatment goals will be shaped around your individual experiences, needs, strengths, circumstances, and what feels meaningful to you.
What Happens During Your First Psychotherapy Session?
Your first appointment is an opportunity for you and your psychotherapist to get to know each other.
You do not need to prepare anything beforehand.
You will have an opportunity to talk about:
- What brought you to therapy
- What you have been experiencing
- Relevant parts of your background
- How these concerns are affecting different areas of your life
- Important relationships, experiences, strengths, and supports
- What you would like to be different
- What you hope to gain from therapy
Your psychotherapist will listen and ask questions to better understand your experiences.
Together, you may begin identifying patterns, thoughts, emotions, or experiences that could be connected to what you are going through.
From there, you and your therapist will collaboratively establish therapy goals and determine a treatment plan and direction that feels appropriate for you.
